Frequently Asked Questions for Volunteers


What are the ages of the students who participate in the Running & Reading Club?

Children in the Running & Reading Club are 6 -13 years old; from grades 1-6.


How are students selected to participate in the program?

School administrators and teachers nominate students who will benefit from the program according to the mission of Start2Finish and the selection guideline.


Do I have to run in order to volunteer?

No, you can walk to the children, encourage them as they run, and also help with the overall supervision of students during the running.


Do I have to be at the program every week?

We encourage volunteers to be at the Club consistently to build relationship and team with the children and the other volunteers. However, if you are unable to attended some sessions, notify the Club Director(s) in advance, as well as the children and let them know when you will return.


What if I am late coming to the program, can I still participate?

Yes, we need the most volunteers during the reading portion of the Club which is the second half of the program.


What are the steps to apply to volunteer?

You will need to complete an application form with two references, complete a police check for the vulnerable sector, and attend the volunteer training and orientation.

(NOTE: The process to complete a police check for the vulnerable sector varies in each city. For complete details, contact the Start2Finish office or your local police services. A fee may apply to complete the police check depending on your city).
