Start2Finish is joining the rest of the world in the effort to slow, and stop, the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Here are some of the ways we are helping to flatten the curve:

  • Schools in various regions across the country have been closed intermittently since last March, and a number of students are still attending “virtual” school.  Although our in-person programs are currently on hold, we are continuing to collaborate with school boards and other partners in the over 65 communities we serve. Start2Finish Head Office staff are working to stay connected with our Regional Managers, Running & Reading Club Directors, Teacher Champions, Start2Finish volunteers and our education partners across the country to implement the best model for continuing to serve the most vulnerable children in our communities through our vital programming.

  • The kids we impact are very sensitive to living in times of even greater uncertainty than usual. To help Canadian children manage their added stress, we at Start2Finish have made the following resources available:

    • We have opened up our Daily 20 portal to offer a free virtual physical activity resource to school boards, schools, parents, students, volunteers and the general public in order to help people stay active and healthy during this time of physical distancing. 

    • We are hosting #BookTales on YouTube so our program participants and other Canadian children can keep up with their reading and continue building literacy skills while away from school, as well as make catch-up easier when school resumes.

    • We are operating virtual Running & Reading Club “hubs” incorporating various aspects of the regular after-school program into an online format.

  • We are keeping in touch with our contacts on social media to stay informed, give encouragement, and offer the Daily 20 portal and these other resources they can utilize during this time.

  • We are sending weekly communications to our volunteers and donors, letting them know we're thinking of them and sharing how their investment is making an even greater impact now during this challenging time!
