REGIONAL director: LAURIE
As a parent of an elementary student I know firsthand the struggles of trying to find enough hours in the day to make sure the long list of household tasks are done and meals are made. On top of this to also have time to keep the child active and doing their schoolwork is often times more stressful then rewarding. I found this to be true, when my own son decided he hated learning to read and it would be a constant after school battle of wills. I can imagine that if I had been a single parent, or had work and other children I would not have been able to provide the calm support my child needed to become an avid reader.
The Start2Finish Running and & Reading Clubs are a free solution to a multitude of struggling parents and caregivers. The 1-day a week after school program runs from October to May for children in Grades 1-6. By utilizing caring volunteers in the clubs, children are mentored to discover their own love of reading and physical activity. Children are encouraged to believe in themselves, creating a more confident inner self that prepares them for the future.
Want to help? At Start2Finish I welcome volunteers looking to engage with children. I welcome donations of age appropriate books & magazines. I welcome donations of food & drink for our snack-time. I welcome any support for our awareness and fundraising events. If you are looking for something rewarding where you are appreciated then reach out and get involved with us. You will be really glad you did!
