Virtual Volunteering

Start2Finish's phenomenal volunteers have taken on the challenge during COVID-19!

Organic volunteering has grown during this time as volunteers have transitioned from traditional roles to find new ways to meet the needs of the children we serve. Now we are looking at how our volunteers can continue to support the mission of Start2Finish amidst our "new unfamiliar".

Here are a number of areas we are focusing on as we move forward in the process of engaging volunteers in innovative and creative ways to continue to impact Canada's most vulnerable children:


  • We are in the planning stages of officially transitioning some volunteer roles to virtual, and creating new roles

  • We are having roundtable discussions with community partners, volunteers and school administrators to explore and develop our enhanced volunteer program

  • We are learning and adopting recommended best practices for training and engaging volunteers virtually

  • We are projecting different scenarios of what the future may look like and are creating tools and resources to facilitate program delivery and volunteer roles both virtually and in-person where permitted

  • We foresee the creation of new roles and ongoing innovation to continue serving the children and communities we support

  • We are utilizing volunteers to help create digital content, conduct virtual check-ins and coaching calls with our program participants, and more

Although COVID-19 was an unexpected disruption to traditional programming, we are viewing this as an incredible opportunity for our volunteer programs to grow and for us to engage volunteers in the process of enhancing our organization in new ways.

In particular, we acknowledge the territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit.
