Miranda’s Story

How Miranda sees herself has totally changed because of the Start2Finish Running & Reading Club!

“Miranda is a grade 6 student who showed up [at the Running & Reading Club] every week and worked very hard to improve her fitness/cardio level. She is a very quiet student who struggles with having confidence in the classroom and felt anxious when the school staff assisting with the program told her she would represent the school in the year-end reading challenge. The day of the 5K Running & Reading Challenge, she told the club leaders and staff that she had worked really hard and wanted to show her mom and dad what she could accomplish with hard work. Her mother approached the school teacher representative before the run and asked if she could be at the finish line to watch her daughter cross the line and accomplish the goal she had set for herself. Both Mom and Dad were there when she finished and had tears in their eyes watching their daughter cross the line.

They had to leave immediately after the run portion of the event, so it wasn't until the Running & Reading Club arrived back at the school and they picked her up that Miranda could show them the trophy she won and share with them the news that she had finished 2nd overall in the grade 5-6 girls’ division.

How she sees herself and her ability to achieve goals has been totally changed as a result of her experience at the Start2Finish R&R Club.”
